A poor samurai and a wealthy businessman become unlikely friends through the game of Go. The masterless samurai Yanagida (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) has lost his status due to a false accusation, but has not abandoned his integrity; Genbei (Jun Kunimura) is an unscrupulous pawnbroker who learns the value of honesty from Yanagida. Yanagida’s daughter Okinu (Kaya Kiyohara) and Genbei’s ward Yakichi (Taishi Nakagawa) also begin to grow closer. However, on a certain night of celebration, Yanagida receives a shocking message that summons him to seek revenge. On that same night, a large sum of money disappears from Genbei, and Yanagida becomes the prime suspect.
Bushido is a visually stunning modern samurai film that both pays tribute to the traditions of the jidaigeki genre and reinvents them. It is a story of honor, revenge, pride – and friendship.
